In praise of a great shave with Bolin Webb
Generally I come across new grooming products via a launch event or an emailed press release. Randomly, Bolin Webb was introduced to me as I travelled to the 24th floor of The Shard on my way to a briefing on engaging with in-bound Chinese consumers of luxury goods. My fellow traveller in the lift introduced herself as working for this razor-focussed British brand, which was launched in 2011… I needed to know more.
So, over to Tester John to put the new (and very tactile) Bolin Webb R1 Matte Razor (with stand) through its paces… plus the Face Balm.
“Never have I paid so much attention to a razor before picking it up and using it. The sleek lines of Bolin Webb’s latest offering (and it’s an amazing looking stand) reminded me of the sexy curves of a Grand Prix racing car and I fully expected it to hum like a Light Sabre once I picked it up. Sadly it didn’t, but it did seem to laser cut through stubble in a not too dissimilar fashion.
I’ve tried a few of the new wave of men’s razors to emerge of late and in my mind there’s no question this is the best. Strangely I found myself holding it as one would use an old fashioned cut-throat, which given its incredibly smooth yet close shave is perhaps not surprising.
At £100 (including the stand) it’s not cheap – but hey you only get one face, so it’s well worth looking after it!” [The razor is made from zinc, sprayed with automotive paint and then coated with lacquer. The rubber underside is ABS plastic-coated with Thermo Plastic Elastomer. The razors are sprayed in the same factory as parts for all the world’s best known supercars – Bugatti, Aston Martin etc. The Matte Black razor is benchmarked on the Aston Martin Matte Black. All Bolin Webb Razors house either a Mach 3 (R1) or Fusion Gillette Razor Blade (X1).]
Many of the face balms on the market seem to carry an aroma that can often seem at odds with whatever fragrance you might use elsewhere. Not so with this moisturiser. It’s light and noticeably carries just the right amount of citrus [organic cactus extracts, hops, essential oils and shea butter in fact] meaning that it complements, rather than opposes, any other scent you might be wearing. If the R1 razor doesn't leave your face smooth and refreshed enough – this product takes it to an entirely different level!
