One of the joys of life is discovering new brands. And while Danner Boots isn’t exactly new – Charles Danner started his company in 1932 – the brand, which launches online this autumn, is new to these shores.
Danner originally made boots for workers in Wisconsin who required good-quality but inexpensive boots to endure the wear and tear caused by life in the logging industry. It was also one of the first brands to make waterproof boots.
Danner’s gone on to supply the US Marines and Army with boots that can handle extreme conditions in places like Iraq and Afghanistan, and its wares have adorned the feet of hikers and mountain climbers who needed high-performance boots for sometimes hazardous conditions.
You’re probably not going to need your footwear to stand up to such rigours, but Danner’s new waterproof autumn styles, such as the Vertigo 917 (£175.42) and Featherlight 917 (£191.36), are comfortable all-weather boots that can keep you exploring your urban environment throughout the winter months.
Our favourite, however, is the Explorer 650 (£151.50, pictured), a lightweight hiking boot with a strong grip that’s great for everyday wear either around the city or for a weekend hiking in the woods.
