Good enough to drink…
Have you ever smelt a fragrance so delicious that you were almost tempted to take a swig? Oh. So that’s just me then… Well, let’s just pretend that this is something that has crossed your mind because an interesting collaboration between a fragrance brand and a cocktail bar has resulted in the launch of a new set of cocktails.
So, if you’re a fan of British cult fragrance house Escentric Molecules and you like an upmarket, hip tipple, you need to get yourself to London restaurant/cocktail bar Hawksmoor Spitalfields and ask for one of their four drinks created using an exclusive cordial – 02H – inspired by the single note Escentric Molecules 02.
Geza Schoen, the ‘nose’ behind the fragrances, and Ali Reynolds, Hawksmoor’s award-winning head mixologist got together and formulated the cordial – a syrup using Austrian Almdudler Lemonade, sugar, grapefruit peel and citric acid. A teaspoon of this stirred or shaken with gin, champagne, gin and Campari or gin and soda et voila! One of the cocktails – the Drydown, a Gin Gimlet-style – will remain on the bar’s menu exclusively until the end of May. Once it’s gone it’s gone!
But of course the fragrance lives on. Molecule 02 is a single note aroma chemical, Ambroxan, which in nature is identical to ambergris – a fresh, mineral quality. Its sibling fragrance, Escentric 02 is a blended fragrance designed around Ambroxan and incoroporating vetiver, muscone and oris insense – with a gin and tonic accord.
