We love the city of Los Angeles here at The Style King. Our shop of the week is one that is the epitomy of Californian cool – combining American heritage with modern, laidback LA style. The store in question is Surfing Cowboys, a vintage store selling vintage clothing and furniture, as well as their own t-shirts and trinkets. What Surfing Cowboys represents is a lifestyle – items lovingly collected for their gang of dedicated customers.

Situated on the famous Abbot Kinney Boulevard in Venice Beach, Surfing Cowboys was founded in 1995 by vintage enthusiasts Wayne and Donna. After collecting vintage goodies for years for ther own pleasure, they decided to turn their workshop into a store. Fascinated by the idea of collecting, Surfing Cowboys was soon developed around the ideas of the American West – ideas about conquering your environement and making it your own.Of course, some of Wayne and Donna’s rhetoric is a little sickly for us Brits - their shop description reading like a new age mantra, seeking to ’capture the lifestyle of freedom, transformation, and reinvention’ of California – but their intentions are good, and their products remain of the highest standards. There is no definite product range, but instead consists of what Donna and Wayne can find – from Navajo rugs, cowboy boots to mid century furniture. And, with their own range now available, you can purchase a slice of the Californian brand – the perfect souvenir.

But what is most appealing is the pure American-ness of it. Their collection straddles US history, providing the tourist or the local alike with a range of products inspired by California and America itself. And with ‘Americana’ being such an inspiration point to this summer’s collections, now is the perfect time to head to Surfing Cowboys. Or, if you are lucky enough to live in California, make the trip to LA – you won’t be disappointed.
