LAST MINUTE GIFT GUIDE
By Belinda Morris
Ok, it’s getting a little closer now and you’re starting to get just a tad twitchy… maybe even border-line panicky. If inspiration is now so thin on the ground you can practically see through it, here are a few suggestions that we think will cut the mustard:
Just for the tree
Always a good idea to create a small cache of inexpensive gifts – for those just-in-case situations, or simply as stocking fillers. This Classic Bauble’s cute, and as the lip balm inside is by the very credible and lovely Burt’s Bees, you can’t go wrong – from Waitrose (£6).
If you’re struck by the idea of a treasure-filled bauble, then you could step up a gear and go for the Bauble Gift Set from international brand Sabon which has just opened a store in Covent Garden. The bauble includes vitamin-rich Silky Body Milk and Shower Oil and all products are SLS and paraben-free – so kind as well as beautiful. £22. Sabon, 38 Neal Street, London WC2. www.sabonuk.co.uk You can never have too many Christmas decs, particularly if they’re this special – the latest collectible limited edition charm from jewellers Dower & Hall. The Christmas Tree is silver-plated and hand-carved and priced at £15 (or free with every purchase over £100). www.dowerandhall.com
If in doubt, let them have chocolate – with certain people this can never fail. Especially if the chocolates are rather posh, like this Heston from Waitrose Cocktail Chocolate Box (£13.50) or perhaps Charbonnel et Walker Dark Sea Salt Caramel Truffles (£9.99)… also from Waitrose.
If any of your beloveds haven’t been introduced to Korres yet… do them a favour. The Greek skincare/haircare brand, with its roots in a homeopathic pharmacy offers a natural and certified organic range with scents made in heaven. This Christmas their gift sets have a holiday theme – like this Mediterranean Trio featuring Shower Gel, Body Milk and Body Butter with hints of basil, lemon, figs, bergamot and pears. (£26, Debenhams and www.debenhams.com)
A travelling watch wardrobe
Those who own a different watch for every day of the week and for every mood, probably already have a rosewood box to treasure them in (as well as a state-of-the-art watch winder) but do they have a handy little case for travelling? Here’s just the thing then: the Blake watch roll by Wolf, a fifth-generation watch winder, watch box and jewellery box manufacturer, which has now added luxury leather accessories to its repertoire. The roll comes in Teju lizard or pebble grain leather. www.wolf1834.co.uk.
And perhaps start the collection off with this glitzy watch Knightsbridge by O.W.L. – just £115, which is a lot of bling for your bucks. (www.owlwatches.com)
Grooming with added well-being
If you usually steer clear of the ubiquitous gift sets, there are a handful that are worth a second look – anything from Neal’s Yard Remedies for example. One of the UK’s original certified organic skincare brands it never fails to pull together a great collection, with its best-selling lotions and potions at the heart. The Men’s Organic Grooming Collection (£35) contains Calming After-Shave Balm, Invigorating Body Wash and Close Shave Cream. And why not treat your mum/aunty/lady-wot-does to a little something – like the Relax English Lavender Organic Collection (£20) with Shower Gel and Body Lotion.
Over to the dark side…
If Creed’s Love in Black – suggested in our earlier gift list – stirred you, then here’s a possible masculine equivalent: Dark Rebel, the new fragrance from John Varvatos. And for a possible recipient, think risk-taking bad boy with an edge. The smoky oriental fragrance has some familiar woodsy notes, but with the addition of Jamaican rum, black leather and nutmeg for sweetness and black pepper for bite. (£69 – 125ml, department stores nationwide)
Colour her beautiful
Gold always has a festive feel, so check out Elizabeth Arden’s Golden Opulence Collection for a few choice – and rather glamorous – palettes that will appeal to all ages. Eye Shadow: £26, Highlighter: £29, Lip Gloss: £18 and Liquid Eye Liner: £18.
