Savile Row Sizes Up Adidas
Adidas Collaborates With One of The Oldest Tailors On Savile Row
In what is probably one of the most unusual fashion partnerships ever, Adidas has collaborated with Savile Row tailor Henry Poole and Co creating a limited edition version of the iconic NMD sneakers.
The sportswear giant better known for collaborating with musician Pharrell Williams and designer Stella McCartney wanted to do something a little different this season approaching the Savile Row tailor with the inspired idea.
Famous for their royal connections and being the first tailor to design the ‘Tuxedo’ or dinner jacket in the 1880’s, adidas knew they were onto something special and Henry Poole needed little persuading in needing a reason to reach a different type of customer.
Inspired by the traditional chalk stripe suit and the Tuxedo, the limited edition sneakers are available in two styles. The first NMD R2 incorporates the chalk stripe into the design and the second NMD XR1 uses the midnight blue tuxedo dinner suit as inspiration creating the perfect hybrid - a sneaker that can be worn as an evening shoe.
The fabrics are specially woven for the collaboration as they need to be robust enough to be worn on the feet, the usual suit fabric just won’t work on the street. And with all the attention to detail and craftsmanship that you would expect from a Savile Row tailor the sneakers include a jacket lining and an adidas Originals x Henry Poole selvedge on the heel.
With menswear sartorial rules constantly changing the collaboration between adidas and Henry Poole sounds like it could be the future of fashion, mixing the craftsmanship of old with a vision for the future.
The Limited Edition adidas x Henry Pool NMD Sneakers will be priced at £150.00 and available exclusively at size? From 21st July.
