Two new beauties from Acqua di Parma
Regular readers of The Style King grooming posts will know that I have a bit of ‘a thing’ for Acqua di Parma – I don’t think I ever met a creation from the Italian fragrance house that I didn’t like and most of them I’ve loved. And I’m reasonably picky too. So, anyway, please humour me while I wax lyrical about not one but two new launches.
Actually, one is not so new – Colonia Ambra was unveiled earlier this summer while our site was enjoying its re-vamp, so think of this review as a catch-up. And it’s so yummy I can’t possibly ignore it… Continuing the house’s exploration of different olfactory cultures (Colonia Oud, Colonia Leather) Colonia Ambra goes way back in time to the ancient history of perfumes and, therefore, finds itself with Marco Polo in Venice and then along the Silk Road. Unknown, rare essences – like ambergris – were brought back to Venice and it is this ingredient that has been given a contemporary twist for Colonia Ambra.
The citrus notes of classic Colonia have been blended with the seductive ones of ambergris, for a fragrance that begins as a fresh burst, leads into warm heart notes then closes with an earthy muskiness, tinged with sandalwood and sweet vanilla. Delicious.
(£150 – 100ml, from Harrods and www.acquadiparma.co.uk)
Bringing us right up to date, Colonia Club launches this month and takes its inspiration from the rarefied world of the private sports club and in particular an equestrian club, with a dash of noble country house thrown in. Focusing in further still, Colonia Club imagines the traditional, aristocratic sport of dressage and dedicates the fragrance to men who appreciate the impeccable disciplines of such horsemanship.
The iconic Art Deco bottle is now a forest green and sits in a classic green box. The fragrance is unashamedly masculine – top citrus notes of bergamot, lemon, petitgrain and mandarin, as well as fresh mint and neroli oil, that meld into a heart of geranium and lavender and finally a base woody vetiver and warm musk and amber.
