Discover A New Fragrance Each Month With Sniph
By Belinda Morris
I’m not sure if it’s a boy thing exactly, but you know you’re onto something when you get asked – quite a lot – what fragrance you’re wearing. “Mmm, love how you smell” always goes down well with me, from whatever quarter the compliment comes.
Well, I’ve been quite a bit of that lately, ever since I discovered Hollyrose by Room 1015. Or, to be more truthful, since I as introduced to it by Sniph. Yes, it’s a bit of a dippy name and doesn’t quite do justice to the chicness and cleverness of what is essentially a concierge service for premium scents.
Created as a monthly subscription service, it allows members to discover, over a year, 12 top niche fragrances for £15.99 per month. And they’re substantial 7ml samples, together with a nifty, twist-up dispenser to carry them around in your back pocket, brief case, man bag… whatever.
The founders and curators, Lisa Kjellquist and Tara Derakshan from Sweden (intent on being a disruptive innovation of the traditional, big brand perfume industry) trawl the globe looking for interesting fragrances, basically so that you don’t have to (making potentially expensive mistakes in the process). If you really like any of your sent scents (selected for you based on your preferences given), you can order full-size bottles. Easy.
Sniph recently carried out a survey among members to discover the most popular and it emerged that gender neutral, unusual combinations of ingredients and not always the most expensive came out top. For the record, the men’s top three list included: Huitieme Art, Aqaysos (fruity, woody, musky); Histoires de Parfums, This is Not a Blue Bottle (metal, honey, orange) and Room 1015, Electric Wood (cedar, citrus, nutmeg… sexy and cool). Apparently men “are weak for anything exotic, fruity and ‘just showered’.
Abandon the idea of having a signature scent. Check it out.
