SUPER FACIALIST By Belinda Morris
HYALURONIC ACID FIRMING
Daily Brightening Cleanser
I’ve been reading a lot about hyaluronic acid recently (pronounce it slowly – it’s not such a tongue-twister) and I have to admit that the idea of it has always been quite alarming for me. Acid? Really? Do I want that on my skin? Yes, I know, I should get right in there and test anything and everything… it’s my job after all. But having rather sensitive skin given to dry, red patches from time to time, I’ve tended to steer clear of stuff that might potentially make it feel worse.
But now, the more I’ve looked into it, the more I understand and the more benign hy-a-lur-on-ic acid actually is. So what is it and what’s it for? Well, it’s actually a moisture-binding ingredient, produced naturally in our bodies, that helps keep skin hydrated and plump. It also fights free radicals and has anti-inflammatory properties. Trouble is – it degrades on a daily basis and as we age, we produce less and less of it. So bring it on!
I’m dipping my toe into this particular self-improving water with a cleanser by Super Facialist, which has been formulated with HA to help with firming. Yes, it will remove make-up, but I’ve been using it as a morning face wash and it’s doing the job very well and with absolutely zero ill-effects. Just massage in the gel-like cleanser (on to a damp face is best) – it becomes creamy but then rinses off easily. No overpowering scent – just a light, refreshing zinginess. My test for good hydrating abilities is that I don’t need to immediately moisturise for fear of my face cracking. Does my face feel lifted? Hmmm, possibly too late for me, but it definitely feels softer and smoother… and I’m no longer afraid of acids.
