THINKING ABOUT THE ‘C’ WORD
I wouldn’t normally be troubling you this early about gift buying, but let me plant this thought in your head: how good would it be to get some of the more troublesome presents sorted before you’ve even had a sniff of a Christmas party?
As ever, the stores are over-flowing with the usual gift sets (coffrets as the industry likes to call them), but of course the loveliest ones fly off the shelves, so if you’re thinking brother, father, mother, sister, BFF, nanny, teacher… best to track them down now.
To speed you on your way, I’ve rounded up a few that have caught my eye this year. On the fragrance front, the ones that appeal the most are those that feature a full-size flacon with a sweet little handbag/pocket-sized atomiser (rather more handy/beautiful than body wash/lotion in my view). Alternatively, look for thoughtful, wellbeing type sets (tread carefully if products include ant-ageing and cellulite references… they don’t always go down well!)
VAN CLEEF & ARPELS BOIS DORÉ (£130)
Can’t decide whether to give this to a man or a woman… or maybe just gift it to yourself (you’ve earned it, surely)? No problem Bois Doré, with its oriental woodiness, is gender fluid. It’s sweets and spicy, with notes of vanilla, tobacco, cedar and musk.
GOUTAL ROSE POMPOM (£110)
If she loves rose, loves Paris and can be tempted by sweet pastries, this sweet, tangy scent (100ml) with 10ml travel spray in a pouch is sure to win you brownie points.
CARTIER PASHA EDITION NOIRE (£88)
Green, fresh and citrusy at first spritz, then warmer and woodier as it settles on the skin. Despite the ‘Noire’ part, this is probably a fragrance for business rather than hedonistic pleasure; more sophisticated than sexy… but very masculine. And the 100ml flacon comes with a handy 10ml mini spray.
THIS WORKS – Space to Dream (£38)
Perfect for insomniacs, or anyone horribly aware that they don’t get enough zeds. To encourage winding down time and mindful preparation for bed there’s deep sleep bath soak, to help you unwind and hopefully banish nighttime anxieties, stress check roll-on, and deep sleep pillow spray helps you to fall asleep.
THE W7 COSMETICS ROMANCED EYE COLOUR PALETTE (£9.95)
Make-up palettes – can’t go wrong with them! They can be pretty pricey, but W7 have tapped into the trend, nailed it and do a whole load of them, from the low-key like this, to the much, much glitzier, brighter… you’ll know what’s right.
CHARLOTTE TILBURY PALETTE OF POPS – STARLIGHT (£39)
However, if you want to splash out and know someone who appreciates high- octane glamour, then you really can’t go wrong with something (anything) from make-up artist-to-the-stars Charlotte Tilbury, where there are gift ideas from stocking-filler tidbits to splashing-out luxuries. With these metallic, highly pigmented shade palettes, choose between warm, rosy tones or this silver/gunmetal/forest green/khaki ensemble.
